Just hours after photos publish by Us Weekly suggesting that Kristen Stewart cheated on boyfriend Robert Pattinson with “Snow White and the Huntsman Director” Rupert Sanders, the actress issued a groveling apology.

“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected,” Stewart said in her emotional apology issued to People magazine. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”

But some have questioned why Stewart even felt the need to apologize.

Comedian Kathy Griffin, notorious for poking fun at celebs for their less-than-stellar moments, had some advice about cheating for the 22-year-old “Twilight” starlet.

Oh Kristin Stew, have u learned nothing from men in Hwood ??:) Lie & make the GUY feel crazy!

Similarly, Jezebel’s Jessica Coen calls Stewart’s apology completely “unnecessary.”

Coen writes:

Say it with me: Cheating is wrong! Kristen Stewart Did a Bad Thing. She acted like a crappy person. But she did it to her boyfriend, and she’s young, and chances are she’s learned her lesson. Assuming Pattinson and Stewart’s relationship was in an otherwise happy place full of hearts doodled on notebooks, she certainly does owe him an apology. She doesn’t, however, owe him — or any of us — a press release. Stupid girl did something stupid. The end. But don’t get me started on Sanders. That guy’s a piece of s—.

HuffPost blogger Katie Calautti spoke with an entertainment PR contact, who offered some insight on the why the “Twilight” star was willing to speak so candidly.

“One could argue that Kristen Stewart has showed more emotion and likeability in the past 24 hours than she has in years,” the PR contact told Calautti. “I think it’s calculated to make her look sympathetic in the wake of cheating on her long-term boyfriend, but other than that, I still think someone is making her publicly apologize.”

Although Sanders issued his own confession, the heat seems to be aimed at Stewart rather than the 41-year-old director, who is married to model Liberty Ross and has two children.

Bonnie Fuller, editor-in-chief of Hollywood Life and HuffPost contributor, says more blame should be placed on Sanders’ shoulders.
