Peyton Manning Reportedly to be released. According to a report, the Indianapolis Colts are going to release Peyton Manning, to avoid paying him the $28 million bonus that he is due on Thursday, March 8. At that point, he will be the biggest free agent the league has probably ever had. The Arizona Cardinals are expected to show interest and try to acquire him.
When this prime-time NFL quarterback hits the open market, one thing is certain: There’s going to be a mad scramble never seen before perhaps in the history of the sport.
Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports Reports:
Based on my conversations with numerous general managers and other league insiders, I’ve got a list of a dozen viable suitors. At this early stage, I don’t think anyone, even Manning himself, knows where he’ll end up.
However, given the specifics of his situation – coming off neck-fusion surgery; desperately seeking a second Super Bowl ring; accustomed to and intent upon having full control of the offense he runs – I can tell you where Manning should go when all is said and done.
