With the 2012 NBA Free Agency set to kickoff in high gear, a lot of big names
will most likely leave their current team in search of more money or another title.
So let the “rumors” begin!
According to reports, Ray Allen will most likely not return to the Boston Celtics at this point. He has many options and the top ones, like many of the other top free agents, are the Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder. Allen would fit very well with any of these teams, but the most he has interest is in South Beach.
Writes Brian Windhorst of ESPN:
According to multiple league sources, there is mutual interest between Allen and the Heat. The most the Heat can offer is a contract starting at $3 million per year, which is known as the “taxpayer’s mid-level.” Allen could get more elsewhere, but the Heat do offer an attractive portfolio that goes deeper than cash.
The Heat are able to sign Allen for up towards $3 million. He can get more elsewhere, but if he wants to get more rings, this is the best way to go. Miami can also see James Jones and/or Mike Miller retiring, which can save some more cap space. They can also consider amnestying Miller for even more space to lure in other players like Steve Nash or Jason Kidd.
